How to Evaluate a Factory in China: 10 Point Checklist

Practical checklist for vetting a potential supplier.

Evaluating a factory in China before you commit

Use this 10-point checklist

  1. Business license: verify on the National Enterprise Credit Information System.
  2. Years in business: prefer 5+ years.
  3. Certifications: ISO 9001, CE or UL where relevant.
  4. Factory size: 50+ workers and 5000m2+ for sheet metal work.
  5. Equipment list: ask for the machine list.
  6. QC process: ask to see incoming, in-process and final inspection.
  7. English communication: reply within 24 hours and understand your standards.
  8. Reference customers: ask for 2-3 references in your industry.
  9. Trial order: start small and test the process.
  10. Payment terms: T/T 30/70 and L/C are acceptable.

Red flags: no business license, no certifications, evasive about factory visit, too-good-to-be-true pricing
