First, certifications matter: ISO 9001 is table stakes, but look for IEC 61439 compliance, UL listing if you ship to North America, and CE for Europe

Second, ask about their engineering capability

Can they review your schematics and suggest improvements? A good factory has in-house engineers, not just assemblers

Third, visit or video-call the factory

You want to see their production floor, QC lab and warehouse

Fourth, ask about their QC process: incoming inspection, in-process checks, FAT

Fifth, communication: do they reply within 24 hours? Do they understand your standards? Sixth, reference customers in your industry

Seventh, trial order first: start with a small batch, test the process before committing to volume
