Typical Lead Time for Sheet Metal Fabrication Orders
What affects lead time, from prototype to mass production. How to plan your schedule.
One of the first questions buyers ask: how long does sheet metal fabrication take? The answer depends on order type
For rapid prototypes (1-20 pcs), expect 3-5 working days
This is laser cut + CNC bend, no tooling
For low volume production (50-500 pcs), plan 15-20 days
This includes material preparation, production, surface treatment and packing
For high volume (1000+ pcs), plan 30-45 days
If progressive dies are needed, add 2-3 weeks for tooling
What affects lead time? Material availability (SS304 and aluminum are usually in stock), surface treatment (powder coating is fast, anodizing takes longer), and quantity
Tips to speed up: provide complete drawings (PDF + DXF/STEP), confirm material and finish upfront, allow air freight for urgent orders
